My husband isn't a happy camper today. He's trying to get our car's NYS inspection but gets stonewalled. My son called at least seven or eight local garages and every one said that they don't do inspections any more.
They all told him to go to Calverase's over on W 1st St. My husband swore he would go out of town before he would go back to him
So who do you go to locally? Are there any local, reputable, honest, inspection stations still left in Oswego? What's going on?

How about Carsons? I know Jeff a little bit. He seems like a great guy.

Up on West First between each of the falls, just past the old Seaway Supply building if you are headed south.

I dont know how Carsons is for inspections, but I know several people who bought cars from him and they were very unhappy. One bought a van that had been in a accident and they weren't told that. :oThe Ford Dealer here had to fix something on it and told the family about it. ASK your friends or family to recommend someone.

Well, thats odd. My wife's vehicle was fixed just fine when she brought it there. Oh, about van your friend bought, did they ask? Or is it a law to tell the buyer, which actually would make sense.

When buying a used car from a dealer ask them for a CarFax report...if they have nothing to hide, they will supply you with one...or get the VIN and do it yourself...

Maybe a Carfax or something similar would be good to get. When I mentioned it to my husband, he told me that a lot of used car dealers are pushing "Southern" cars.
They tell the customer that they don't spread salt on the roads in the south and that the southern cars have little or no rust on them. What they conveniently forget to tell is that thousands of cars have been caught in floods, cleaned up and put on the market out of state.
He also told me that if you don't know what state the car came from, it's harder to check the VIN number in the state MVB for accidents and flooding. Buyer beware.
Am I sounding a bit paranoid? Probably so. A used car salesman wouldn't fib to us, would he?

Sounds like good advice to me. Being cautious about buying a used car is a good thing. You don't sound paranoid to me. Just smart about your purchase.

Just want to let you know that we did find a local garage to inspect our car. We have to wait till Tuesday because of Labor Day. But that's okay. I'm still a little curious why a lot of garages have stopped inspecting vehicles.
