(Admin/Truth/whoever this was a decent post from IO so I hope you don't mind me putting it here)
All of the time & expense wasted to fight the new college housing with a lawsuit seems a bit wasted and shows a lack of maturity on the part of those filing the suit. If the Landlords Association or whatever they called themselves, really wanted to keep this project from being successful - why are they throwing their money at an attorney and court/filing fees? Doesn't seem that any of them have any business sense at all and deserve to be a few dollars short in the coming years.
Would it not make better sense to use all of the money that is going into this lawsuit and renovate their own properties so that they can compete with the housing project? The properties are run down, not maintained, the students complain and get no results -- so now they have a company that wants to do something about this and these "business people" are upset? They have had years of opportunities to do the right thing, but now that there is competition on the horizon, they join together and file a lawsuit? How stupid is that? If you were true business people, concerned about the future of your properties and profit -- why not fight like true professionals? Fix up your properties, make them just as desireable, if not more, than what the new project is offering - make them something that the students would want to live in. Think about it; which properties are closer to the bars, to Harborfest (many come back for that), to the shops, etc. You guys are not using your heads and are wasting big $$. You have this entire next year to make a positive change on how "student housing" is perceived and to bring students back to your properties and entice them to stay. Yet you throw this out the window for a stupid lawsuit? Come on guys -- what the hell are you thinking? The students aren't being forced to live in the new project are they? Maybe this is the piece I am missing. I'm not sure, but from all the news and what the papers are saying, sounds more like a bunch of playground bullies stomping their feet in a temper tantrum. Grow up, get smart, take the high road and do something positive. I say let them build -- you're properties - with improvements made in both the buildings and the management, could put these people out of business and cost them much more than some frivolous lawsuit. Muscle power won't buy you much -- a little time, but a lot of frustration. Brain power would buy you so much more.
No wonder this city is a mess. No one outside or inside city hall that can think with any sort of buisness mindset -- just bully, threaten, sue, whatever. Good grief. Grow up.
Come On Landlords -- be smart, use your heads, collaborate, renovate, improve and prosper!
