Erik Cole to bring Stanley Cup to town, along with golf benefit for library fund. Oswego native Erik Cole is coming home next month for the first time since his Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup. But his trip isn't just to celebrate his ultimate hockey victory. It's to continue helping the Oswego Public Library succeed in its campaign to raise money for a $5.4 million renovation and expansion project in the city. Cole will join other National Hockey League and Olympic teammates, including Kevin Adams, Chris Conroy and Brian Gionta, as they tee off Aug. 7 at the Oswego Country Club. They will be there for the first Erik Cole Score for Oswego Golf Tournament. Four days later, on Aug. 11, Cole is expected to show off the Stanley Cup in Oswego, although that date may still change, said Charlie Young, president of the Oswego Public Library board of trustees. "It's very, very exciting," said Young. "Erik Cole and his wife, Emily, have given us a tremendous boost in our fundraising ability," Young said. "It's the sort of things we like to train students in: Set a goal and work to achieve it. And remember their roots, which he most certainly has." The library has raised $730,000 toward its $1 million goal so far, Young said. Of that, about $182,000 has been raised through Cole's "Score for Oswego" challenge. from www.syracuse.comErik Stats Page www.carolinahurricanes.com/custom/rad28518.asp
