I can't believe she is serious about her baby bond plan. Guess who pays for the bonds? Here is the clip I read:
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday that every child born in the United States should get a $5,000 "baby bond" from the government to help pay for future costs of college or buying a home.
Clinton, her party's front-runner in the 2008 race, made the suggestion during a forum hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus.
"I like the idea of giving every baby born in America a $5,000 account that will grow over time, so that when that young person turns 18 if they have finished high school they will be able to access it to go to college or maybe they will be able to make that downpayment on their first home," she said.
The New York senator did not offer any estimate of the total cost of such a program or how she would pay for it. Approximately 4 million babies are born each year in the United States.

I don't think much of giving every child in America $5,000 when they are born. My main concern is who will pay for this freebie and where does this money come from. For starters billions of dollars being wasted fighting a useless, can't call it war, police patrol and ongoing search in the mid east would provide lots of the needed funds.
If the country finally gets rid of OUR LEADER "Dub-ya", we can seal off the Mexican border and take a stand against the illegal aliens who flock across the border into the southwest states. These are the illegals who are taking over the school systems, hospitals and every other system that is maintained by the taxpayers dollars. These states finances are being overwhelmed at the present by these people who shouldn't be here in the first place They are putting the country into a tailspin. Their demands are growing day by day.
I would rather see this kind of money being spent on improving the treatment for our wounded and ailing veterans in the VA hospitals.
Lots of our senior citizens who are truly needy, barely existing on fixed incomes, are making decisions daily on whether to pay for rising heating costs, ever increasing taxes or should they use some the little money they have on necessary drug prescriptions Or should they buy food..
Call me old fashioned if you will, but I think that there are much better ways to spend the countries money than handing it out to children.
BTW, who will supervise the funds? More bureaucracy, bigger government. And the beat goes on.

Hate to inform you, but we are fighting a war in Iraq. You may not like it and probably don't understand it, but it is a war. You sound like one of the protesters that has no clue about anything happening in Iraq or in Afghanistan. FYI its the Dems who are keeping the US from sealing of the borders. Not Bush. Of course that doesn't allow for you to blame Bush for all the problems in the world. The

They keep taking and taking and doing nothing decent with the money. Damn straight her idea is crazy. And look who she was taking to about it! Cripes! Will someone straighten out this country. We are going down the tubes. Retirement is a very scary thing, unless you have a big nest egg. That $2000 monthly check doesn't go very far. Health costs, prescriptions, gasoline, National Grid to name some of the biggest benefactors of that small wallet. Lets hope you have everything paid off when you retire.

I'd like to see where that factoid came from. Hope it wasn't Limbaugh or Hannity. Bush is too stupid to blame for all the problems. Blame the voters for not paying attention to what is going on.

The post by stout leads me to a question. What are we doing in the middle east? It seems, ultimately, to be about oil. If it were about doing the right thing, our government would be supplying our troops better. Of course, if it were about doing the right thing they might not have meddled in mid-east politics over the years. Oil baby, it's our national drug.
By the way, I'm a vet and the government held me to my service contract (in fact they extended me because of Desert Storm) then broke the healthcare contract for all vets. The news is full of stories about vets having to pay for their own treatment, being short changed on benefits, and just being further abused in general.

Stout,
Yeah, I guess you'te right. I wouldn't understand anything about a real war. My older brother was wounded in WW II. I was overseas fighting in Korea. My younger brother was a lifer who served in Nam. My son is home now from the mid east and got banged up a little. My brothers kid is over there now spinning his wheels chasing after Bin Laden.
I know that the allies beat the Axis and I know why we had to do it. That was a war, a real war.
Tell me if you can, who won the Korean (police action). That's what they called it. Better yet, who won whatever they call it over in Nam. King George I had a laugher over in the mid east that they called the Gulf War.
And now King George II, aka dub-ya, keeps sending troops over to the mid east trying to stop terrorism and trying to finish off what his daddy didn't do the first time. The money being wasted there is nothing compared to the injuries and death to our fighting forces. For what?
I suppose that when our armed forces saddle up and go to a foreign area to shoot at others and be shot at, you can call it a war. It really doesn't matter what you call it when someone in your family comes home in a body bag.
And when we win this war??? that's going on, just what will we win? Maybe a stop to terrorism? Maybe a stop to fanaticism where people of other religious persuasions get their heads lopped of in the name of allah. Will it be a decisive victory to end for all time what's being perpetrated in the mid east and now throughout Europe?
Tell me what you think.

Ponderer is you believe the only reason we are in Iraq is to take their oil you'd better get an education. What does supplying our troops better have to do with why we are there? You're knowledge of international politics is obviously below average and if the you really believe the war is about oil, explaining it would be a waste of time. Another vet who didn't understand the pledge he took, or the reason people join the Armed Forces.

Not A War. Nothing personal but I don't care about your family history, I too have relatives who fought, died, and were wounded in past conflicts, and several who are in Iraq today. SO! I'm sorry I didn't know it was up to you to decide what is a war and what isn't, next time I'll ask you first, and check with our government after I get the real answer from you. Go stand on a street corner and protest a war you know nothing about and I'll get back to you later.

Ponderer is you believe the only reason we are in Iraq is to take their oil you'd better get an education. I want to step in here. You are in denial if you don't think oil played a huge part. And I noticed Halliburton seems to be doing pretty well too. Cheney: "Let's invade, destroy the cities then rebuild. Whaddaya say Monkeyman?" Der Monkey: "Sure thing Dick. Now, what did you do with my playdoh?" finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=HAL&t=5yOh, how I wish I would have invested in the "War".

The war had nothing to do with Saddam killing thousands of Kurds? It wasn't about the use of chemical weapons on his own people? It wasn't about the invasion of Kuwait, and Saddam attempts at controlling the Persian Gulf oil reserves, therefore the control of the world economy? It had nothing to do with Saddam developing anthrax, and nerve gas, and attempting to build nuclear weapons for over a decade? Saddam did not torture women and children?
All about oil huh? NOT!!!!!!
