Are you talking about B-Jam? I think this years run will make or break it. I'm not a big fan of country music, so I won't be there, but I'll feel the impact due to its proximity related to where I'll be.

I think it was stupid all the way around for this to happen. It was nice to get away for a while and go to B-JAM. I looked forward to it every year.
Now on top of "fighting" the Harborfest crowd, we would have to fight the B-JAM crowd too. I am pretty sure I read that there is a 2 year contract so next year will be the same way.

I think the city may find there butt in a jam over this whole Harborfest thing anyway. First of all the people of Oswego all pay property taxes one way or another (except Harrington doesn't pay enough) and now they have to pay ten bucks a pop to go to a park that they can go to free any other weekend. I also heard there were no dogs allowed at Harborfest, not sure if it is true or not. I agree dogs do not need to be there, but it should be my choice not to take my dog not something I am going to get fined for. Just my opinion.

While I am sure you would have been smart enough not to take your dog, there are people who believe their dog is a family member or makes them cool.
I believe it is a bad thing for an animal to be put in situations such as the large crowds of Harborfest, the State Fair and the Farmers Market. They are expected to act a certain way but sometimes their animal instinct kicks in and it could mean injury to an innocent person. Or even the animal itself.

I stand corrected CleaningLady. I forgot how many irresponsible pet owners there are. It's just a sad reflection on the society we live in now that rules & regulations have to be made for what should be common sense.

b-jam has been in the paper for weeks that there is a cover charge so why is everyone wineing? I think you meant whining. But the reason people are upset is because the fee had to be paid to enter the park period. Even if you were not attending BJAM. This was not a well thought out deal.

To each his own, but you missed one hell of a good show. It was ROCKIN and I'm not huge on country but man it's good live entertainment. A concert ticket would run at least 40 bucks for one artist let alone 4 or 5 acts on one bill, so in retrospect it was a good deal. There was never anything to worry about with the 40 and 20 dollar seats, those sold out within the first few weeks that they went on sale-BJAM has it's own following that travel wherever the show goes. Harborfest is supposed to be free, blah blah blah-they have to make money somewhere but that always hits such offense with Oswegonians. The gates were closed so you could walk around openly with a drink which made for a nice laid back afternoon without teenagers picking fights all over the place and little kids running around. I bought me a ten gallon hat, had a coupla vodka smirnoffs and called everybody darlin' all day long and I was lovin' it.
And I'm goin' back next year, you betcha ;o)

You make some good points. To each his own. Within Oswego, I can't think of a better place to have B-Jam, provided they are going to have it. The downfall is that on Sundays during Harborfest, many families have gone to Breitbeck for a casual Sunday afternoon for free music and food. B-Jam introduces a new attitude to Harborfest, which is why we've heard all the hoopla. This new concept doesn't run concurrent with the old ideas of free music one associates with Harborfest. I think B-Jam could be part of an Oswego summer event, but I don't agree it should be during Harborfest. Bottom line, was good money made by replacing the norm with B-Jam? That will help determine its future. Then again, is Harborfest all about making money for the city? Maybe its time to re-evaluate its purpose in order to better define its future.

You're points are well made also. B-JAM is a great idea, but Harborfest may not be the best place for it. Oswego ought to think about building a pavillion of some sort for events like this. We only have a few months of good weather ... put up a structured building that'll hold 10 or 15 thousand people and have a summer concert series all summer long. Maybe some kind of a tarp like the Carrier dome that'll allow it to be utilized throughout the winter months as well. Concerts, craft fairs, boat, auto or home shows, etc. Hey :slaps forehead: how about water ski's or jets? Think that stuff might sell well if you live next to a lake? Or rent, even ... where IS the closest shop to do this if a renting camper was looking? Fairhaven? Great ... not even in Oswego County.
One thing these bands that come to play Harborfest all comment on before they depart is what a beautiful area it is here and how pleasant it is to play to an audience where the lake, lighthouse, water and boats are the backround. When Blood, Sweat and Tears was here it was their immediate destination after the bombings in Atlanta had happened where they had just been and left. The singer blantantly told the audience what a relief it was to be here where there's a park right next to the water, mentioned the scene they'd just left behind and commented that such an eyeful of natural beauty was enough to allow oneself to 'let go' of the ugly images the'd just seen and replace it with the memory of this enjoyable show that they were thankful to be here to do. I was truely touched by this and could've hugged the guy, honestly.
We have a great area (!!!) ... why can't we use this to our advantage? Yes it's a financial risk - everything is. So ... lay it out on the line and take a well aimed shot at bringing peeps here, upstate, where the downstate dwellers who are looking to own second homes might be interested in the area. This would feed this drought of an economy up here and put Oswego on the map right where it ought to be. After all, we're in the top 20 or so places to view an awesome sunset, right?
I know, it's not my money I'm hollering about. If I had any I'd be smarter ;D I just can't help but think potentially in favor of this city. I was born here, and even if I ever leave here for any reason I'm always going to love the area and I'll always be back for at least a visit. It's part of who I am. And I'll never give up on it.
