NRG Family Stage Features Rock, Jazz, Blues
Harborfest’s admission-free NRG Family Stage in East Park will be jumping with rock, rhythm and blues and jazz performances at the 19th edition of the festival.
Opening the stage on Friday is the Fourth Annual Battle of the Bands.
Young Oswego County musicians under the age of 21 will perform before an independent panel of judges for cash prizes and a chance for a second appearance at Harborfest. The “Battle of the Bands” gets underway at 11am on July 28.
The stage also features the Sarah Ayers Band ( www.sarahayersband.com ). The 2004 Lehigh Valley Music Awards named Ayers as “Best Female Vocalist,” and “Best Blues Vocalist.” Her first album “Cold, Hard, Dirty Truth” received praise from blues fans and critics alike. Her “strong emotive voice” has been compared to Bonnie Raitt and Melissa Etheridge. The Sarah Ayers Band’ will perform on July 28 and July 29.
The NRG Family Stage will also host talented jazz guitarist B. D. Lenz ( www.bdlenz.com ). Lenz was named one of the Top 20 “up and coming” New Jersey Jazz Artists by Newark Star-Ledger and has been featured in the New York Times. This young musician has performed all over the Northeast and will be taking stage at Harborfest on July 29.
Also appearing on the NRG family stage is The Dan Faulk Quartet. A multi-talented saxophonist, Faulk ( www.allaboutjazz.com/php/musician.php?id=1844 )has appeared with jazz masters Barry Harris, James Spaulding and many others. His quartet will be performing on July 29.
