Michael Joyce, R-7th Ward, expressed concern that Vector Construction will not be hiring any union workers for the bridge project.
“We do have a lot of residents that are union people, and we need the jobs,” Joyce said.
Joyce pressed on. “This is a big project in the heart of our city,” he said. “Everyone around supporting you will be union, the police department, the fire department, the department of public works, the utilities.” After the meeting, Joyce noted that every member of the common council was a union or former union employee.
The reason that Joyce isn't intelligent enough to understand...
Vector is an open shop contractor which means they do not sign with union halls, noting that most of the work for the project will be done by his crew.
“That’s what they do, they take apart bridges and put them back together. This is what I expected would happen, just surprised it took so long for Joyce and the unions to start crying.
Watch in the future and see how often Joyce starts with the Union BS.
I can't wait to see the union babies carrying their signs, taking pictures, and acting like asses because all the local union contractors who could of bid the bridge job are out of business or couldn't compete because of the unions. The unions were big and powerful when Nine mile was being built, now they're nothing. The local unions are a joke, their reps make huge paychecks, all over $100,000 a year while the workers have no jobs. The only ones who work are the "select" few that have learned to suck up to the reps.
