I was happy to see the stance that Harrington and Atkins made pertaining to the Fire Department during Monday's council meeting. Someone needs to make the FD understand what budgets are all about. I think they want more money because they can't control their expenses, or worse, don't even know what the expenses are until they have been incurred. I knew Geers way back when. He wasn't too bright then. Some things don't change, it appears.
I started wondering why the other aldermen would approve of granting more money. Any ideas? Is it because they don't want to listen to the complaining FD anymore? Is it because they are involved with the FD union or a union in general? Is it because they socialize with members of the FD? Who knows. Bateman's stance on the issue should speak volumes to us all.
And what's this bull about firemen making over $80K a year. That can't be true. I think firemen are deserving of decent pay for what they do, that is, when they are working, but I read over at the LION that they are commanding a huge salary. I bet that is a flat out lie.
