Abuse of Taxpayer Funds

You may have seen the following post on IO a while back. I felt in agreement with its sentiments and it holds a powerful message should we choose to see it. Thank you to Popeye for allowing me to repost it.

About two weeks ago, June 14, '06 to be exact, I posted on this very same theme. I haven't heard of the subject having even been discussed, much less something being done to correct this shameless abuse of taxpayer funds.

Sorry to have to report this, but the Mayor, aldermen(persons), department heads and other city leaders aren't leading. They are surely aware of this thievery but, for whatever reason, flat out refuse to do anything about the raping of the city coffers for personal gain of a select few.

From what I can see, read and hear is that not enough influential, political fat cat individuals care enough about the little guy, the taxpayer, to break the log jam of politics in order to stop this greedy abuse. It's not that they don't know what's going on under their noses.

I know that Oswego's last elected mayor was subservient to both the city and county political bosses. Could it be that there is a puppeteer standing above our leaders() pulling the strings to direct their actions? If so, that tells me that they are not truly leaders, but just figureheads fooling the taxpayers.

There should be a council meeting tonight, Monday. Let's see if our illustrious leaders will continue to stick their heads into the sand, hoping that the problem will go away by itself.

The way I thought it was supposed to work was that the weary taxpayer voted in new leaders to eliminate the abuses that were being foisted on them. Well, the costly abuses continue and I see no light at the end of this overtime abuse tunnel.

FYI...Popeye has not registered here. I asked permission to repost some comments/concerns he made on IO. Whether or not Popeye visits here I can not say.

I know Popeye quite well. Other than he being a personal friend of my family, there is no outstanding thing about him to make him someone special. He owns property in Oswego and the Town of Oswego.

He is not on welfare. He pays Oswego City, County and School taxes. He raised his children here and they still live and pay taxes in the area.

He lives on a fixed income and has to watch his money carefully. When he sees a civic abuse, he doesn't jump to conclusions but investigates as well as he can. Quite often he attends Council meetings to hear first hand what's going on in the city and county.

When he is convinced that there is something going on, he told me that he feels it is his duty to make the citizens aware of any abuses. That's why he uses web forums to make us aware. Lefty.
