Again, on another Oswego website, the user known as Popeye submitted a very intelligent and well thought out post. With his permission, I have copied it to this forum and I hope our visitors here can voice their opinions on it, in agreement or otherwise.
Thank you Popeye for allowing me to present this here.
Sorry, I just don't get it. Try as I might, I don't understand the importance of topics that are of the highest priority for some people who post. Now don't get me wrong, I fully understand and agree with the all American right for each individual to bring up what is important to himself.
I'm not overly concerned with posters touching on subjects that may, or may not be high on my own personal totem pole of interest. That's life, that's the way it seems to go.
What does concern me is the constant harping, whining and sniveling, ad nauseum, by some who put their own personal vendetta above topics that should be of utmost importance to the overall welfare of, not only the taxpayers, but for the general good of the entire City of Oswego.
For instance, day after day, week after week, month after month, the city's tax coffers are being plundered by selfishly motivated agreements (read sweetheart deals) between the city fathers and it's civic employees who are padding their pensions with unnecessary overtime which swells up the monthly pension check they receive FOR LIFE..
Meanwhile, certain blowhard posters who sound like a broken record, moan and groan about whether the out of town and local drunks be allowed to get blitzed later than 1:00 AM during Harbormess. Also, should they be contained in Water Street holding pens or allow them free range rights to disturb and annoy the citizens wherever they choose to roam. Very important.
It took over a week of verbal abuse to straighten out how long one can park in a certain block of the main drag. Red alert importance.
Not that I mind any, I posted on the subject, too, but compare the pricey menu of Patz to the money being siphoned out of the tax coffers by the selfish, greedy service employees of our city. The Patz topic is intelligent _expression of one's views. The other is outright legal larceny.
Does anyone understand the importance of certain things going on in this city? How important is it to you if you are a taxpayer if there are cigarette butts on the sidewalk of West First and Bridge Street and the tax money is being pilfered on a regular basis for the sole benefit of a handful of certain individuals? Does anyone care? Helooo? Or maybe the chronic, barracks mouthed complainers consider anyone who tries to call attention to an abuse in a complacent atmosphere, a whiner and sniveler.
What's right is right. What's wrong is wrong. If certain people condone wrong practices with a wink of the eye, they too, are guilty of being wrong.
I still don't get it. The city fathers and so called leaders are well aware of the outright taking of the money paid in by the taxpayers. To quote an example of this awareness, I will quote an excerpt of a post written today by a present day Alderman.
"Our Police, DPW, Code Enforcement and Zoning Departments, (By the way, whether intentional or not, there was no mention of OFD) are understaffed and under funded and every day is an uphill fight for them as well."
There you have it in a nutshell. Rather hire proper help to "get er done", the tunnel visioned popular thought is to pay excessive overtime to a few to accomplish the same thing. What ever you do, don't even consider putting new people to work who sorely need a decent job in this day and age in Oz.
We voted in a new slate to get rid of the scalawags and to put an end to corruption. What's stopping the leaders from going all the way?
Maybe no one really gives a hoot after all. I just don't get it.
