The son of an Oswego County legislator pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, a traffic violation, stemming from a hit-and-run automobile crash in March.
Lee B. Walker III, 24, of 160 E. Second St., Oswego, was given a conditional discharge for the plea. He also had been charged with official misconduct, a misdemeanor. This charge was adjourned in contemplation of dismissal, which means the case will be adjourned when he completes 150 hours of community service.
Walker's father, Oswego County Legislator Lee B. Walker Jr. 45, of the same address, is charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor, as part of the same case.
He was in Oswego City Court last week and his case was adjourned until Oct. 30 when motions will be argued.
The younger Walker, who at the time of the crash was a Pulaski police officer, left the scene of an accident he was in even though state law requires police officers to report accidents in which they are involved.
The elder Walker is charged with calling an off-duty police sergeant early in the morning of March 24 after his son was involved in the crash. Police said Walker suspected his son was intoxicated and sought the sergeant's help to avoid drunken driving charges being filed against his son.
The sergeant declined and told Walker to report the accident. Instead, police said, Walker drove his son away from the crash scene.
The elder Walker was elected to the Legislature in November 2007 and represents the 15th District.
This is why the people have no respect for the politicians, Judges, and cops in Oswego.
Judge Metcalf should be ashamed of himself. Then again unless you commit a crime in Metcalfs backyard he doesn't care .
