Joyce would have to be involved since it IS his ward. Looks like Sue Sweet was able to kick start it. This is something I saw on the other websites too. Looks like there is someone else who thinks it is a good idea on the Lion and IO. Here's the Lion post, and well written I will add: Inline Hockey I hear that the city is looking to update the old tennis court at Shapiro Park to make it more condusive to the inline hockey crowd. What a great idea. I live near the park and enjoy using the "rink" to take some occassional shots on goal. Their is a large number of kids who enjoy the facility and they have been begging for upgrades for a long time. The surface is starting to crack and break up and the hockey balls constantly get stuck where the asphalt stops and there is grass at the base of the fence. The kids using the court are getting excercise, having fun and staying out of trouble. What better investment could we make than providing them a quality asset to utilize to have fun and engage in a wothwhile hobby? The alternative is for them to be out doing other activities that are less than healthy. As an adult tax-paying citizen I wish to see basic improvements made no matter what the crumudgeons say.

WELL WRITTEN?>>>LOL The one who wrote the post to the LION, should learn to use spell check! It would be nice that Sweet's intentions were honorable and upright. But the woman, as others have said just wants the attention. What does she do in her ward?? Hardly nothing. I guess in doing something for the kids she might look honorable? And maybe get one of her grandkids on a a better team?? Look at her past and she her motivations.

RE: Inline Skating "As an adult tax paying curmudgeon I say no to the skate park. If there are as many kids as you say there are then they can organize a club and pay for their own facility. That is the American way."
-I believe we are talking about an existing public park that is currently being used for makeshift hockey games and has been for years. The city has long since removed the tennis net at one of the courts at Shapiro Park just for this purpose. It is widely popular and the court is in need of at least repair, if not improvements. Are public parks not the "American way" or do you just enjoy being a jerk?
"As a taxpayer there are no provisions in the law at any level that compel the government to expend tax dollars at your command. You can present your petition to the responsible legislature and it will be discussed by the representatives of the entire community. The courts have clearly established that you cannot direct the expenditure of your taxes."
-What are you talking about? I haven't directed any tax dollars towards any expenditure. You are rambling.
"As a taxpayer I cannot accept the liability for kids hurling hockey pucks or balls at each other or slashing each other with assundry devices of recognized lethality in an unsupervised environment."
-You already do. Get out of the house more often. Next thing you know you will be pushing for all public parks to be closed so the proverbial child doesn't fall off of the preverbial swing.
'Do the words: responsible and parent have any place in your vocabulary? Isn't it time for you "jocks" to grow up and participate as responsible citizens in our Constitutional Republic? Play time is over. If you refuse to recognize " that waters around you have grown" then at least "don't stand in the doorways, don't block up the halls".
-The "waters around you have grown?" You sound like an idiot. What does that even mean? Anyway your insults betray you and it is obvious that you are just looking to start trouble. Maybe that is your sport of choice? Why is it in this town that people are so negative and bitch and moan anytime the slightest thing changes or even gets suggested? It's ridiculous! The fact of the matter is that this is a hockey town and there is no damn good reason why a city facility currently being used by kids to play hockey outdoors can't be improved. Your own argument that kids could get hurt is reason enough to fix the court up, as it is in disrepair and more and more kids are coming out to play everyday. You sound so negative that I would guess that you are one of the people whining about the taxes on their cigarettes going up. Smoke up, Johnny. The rest of us will be outside getting our excercise.

Hockey is a growing sport in Oswego. I enjoy it. The fact is that dumbie SS needs to do for her ward what she isn't doing. Let Joycie do it, he does nothing either. as he isn't in town most of the week.
