I have an old lady ghost that lives in my house. She loves turning things on and off. She throws stuff at my daughter but not to hit her. She has shaken the bed a few times and scared my daughter. Other than that, she's harmeless. Gotta love the ghost.

We don't know the history except an old lady died here. I have never seen her, but have heard her or saw things she did. My husband was talking via web cam to his brother not to long ago. His brother asked him who the guy was standing behind him and there was no one there except me and my daughter and we were off to the side. So I guess she brought home a man ghost. Any more and I'm going to start charging rent... ;D

Years ago when I was working at a local nursing home I was getting ready to go home when a call bell lit up. Seems the next shift was getting report, I checked the board and was surprised. The person never rang her bell. She didn't understand how to use it.
I entered the room and went to turn on the dim light when a small burst of cool air went across my hand. I turned the light on and went to the bed. The woman had passed on. I stayed to help prepare her for the funeral home.
I never forgot that night. This woman never really spoke to anyone but in the last week I had been able to find out why she had never married and why she had never fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse. I was going on vacation after that night for 3 weeks and I always wondered if the call bell ringing was her way of telling me goodbye.

Many years ago, my parents were married shortly after World War I. Sometime later they bought a two story house where my brothers and sister were raised. I was only about four, maybe five years old and overheard my father telling his brother about something unknown that could be heard coming down the attic stairs and walking abour in the upstairs hall. I heard him mention that he could hear the stairs creak and a clanking sound, like a chain rattling.
Ghosts weren't supposed to make noise but this one did, if it was a ghost. My parents mentioned what was going on to the parish priest. He gave them a bottle of Holy Water which they sprinkled on the attic stairway and the upper hall. That was the last time that they were bothered by whatever was going on.
About a year later I was sitting on the couch in the parlor. It was dark outside, maybe about 7:00 PM. In the room besides myself was my mother and her sister, my favorite aunt.
To the day I die, I will never forget what happened next. For whatever reason, my young eyes were directed to the top of the stairway that lead to the upstairs hall. I remember that a chill went up my back. My aunt looked at me and asked "What's the matter?" My mother said nothing just sat there with a dejected look.
They both knew that I had seen *IT*.

Yes, that's the weird thing about what happened. My parents didn't want to talk about this in front of the kids. I accidently overheard my father talk about it to my uncle.
No one ever called it a GHOST. It was usually referred to as IT, whatever IT was. I think that I mentioned in my original post that "Ghosts weren't supposed to make noise." My parents never said that the noise was chains, just a clanking, or a chainlike noise.
The eeriest thing about all of this is that no one ever saw whatever was making the stairs creak, footsteps in the upper hallway or the metallic sounds. When I looked up the stairs, I didn't see anything physical, there wasn't anything to see. But I chilled about whatever was up there and I guess my mother and my aunt saw my face and knew that something was wrong.
In later years, whenever the subject came up, all sorts of reasons were offered about what stirred our imaginations to think that something was amiss.
Some said that the house was settling, the wind caused the creaking steps, more than one person mentioned that it could be demonic possession, etc. All sorts of thoughts on the subject.
Whatever paranormal excuses come up, all I know is the intense, chilling feeling that overtook me by looking at the top of the stairs that evening.

There's a house on E 4th St that has several entities in it. A woman my mother knew a long time ago unknowingly opened a 'portal' with a ouiga board roughly 30 years ago, then later died of cancer. The house has popped up for sale several times ever since. A cousin of one of my friends bought it 20 years ago or so and then sold it. They had alot of bizarre activity going on-dishes smashing to the floor, an old woman would answer the telephone and tell callers they had the wrong number, an 'imaginary' playmate that their 3 yr old described, closets that rearranged it's contents and sometimes the dimensions of it's size within it. They brought in a psychic by the name of Ron Dunn who went through the house asking these spirits to identify themselves and wound up counting at least 5: the old woman, a male child, another adolescent (sex unidentified) and 2 hooded poltergeist figures that were responsible for the throwing and breaking things activity. It was audiotaped and you can hear constant whispers in the backround-I'd heard it myself but it's been years since. There was an area in one of the bedrooms upstairs where it would take you out of body if you stood in it. The old woman followed them after they'd moved, I don't know if she's still with them to this day or not, my friend and I don't associate so often anymore, but sometimes when you drive past the house you can't see in the windows through this smokey haze that's there. It's been bought and sold at least 10 times in the past 30 years or so, nobody stays there ... It's 3 or 4 houses down from the corner of E 4th and Albany St, white and sandwiched in pretty tight on both sides. The neighborhood's gone to hell since I remember being in it as a kid-before all this started.

My mother and grandmother told me a story of a couple (male & female) ghosts that lived in their home in Palermo Sicily. The woman wore a long white dress, with long wavy golden hair. The man was tall dark and very handsome. All of the children in the home saw the ghosts on many occassions. They even saw the youngest child (infant) levetate from his cradle, but never harmed. It was during world war 2, my grandmother was very poor. She claimed the woman appararition would leave money under a coffee cup in their china cabinet every night, it was exactly what she needed to pay the milk man. This went on for a long time. One morning when she lifted the cup instead of money there was lottery chips (of some sort of Italian lottery). When the milk man came to get his pay she told him she did not have his money and offered the lottery chips in replace of cash. You can only imagine the outcome. Needless to say, the milkman was no longer delivering milk! She claimed the friendly, helpful apparaitions turned on her and she experienced ill health and intense body aches until she finally moved out of the home.

Sounds like the ghost intended the lottery chips for your grandmother and got upset when they were given away to the milkman.

In the Pall-Times. Copy and paste is great, huh? CENTRAL NEW YORK GHOSTS STAR IN ‘HAUNTING' DOCUMENTARY By A.J. SHEAR, Contributing Writer Halloween is always a busy time for ghosts, but this year the ghosts of Central New York seem to be getting more attention than usual. Central New York filmmaker Alex Dunbar has just released a documentary film exposing many of the supposedly haunted places in the region. The film, “The Old Quarry and Other Haunted Places of Central New York” takes a look at many sites in the area including Split Rock Quarry in Syracuse, Belhurst Castle, Beardslee Castle and Fort Ontario in Oswego. Many believe that Fort Ontario is one of the most haunted places in the Northeast and Dunbar's film crew was even able to capture some odd moments while touring the facility. “We were filming and it was quite clear that we heard music coming from a certain area,” Dunbar said. “I heard it and so did many other people that were there.” However, Dunbar is a skeptic and was unsure about the event. “I thought there was some trickery involved with a lot of these ghost stories but I also thought there was some stuff with no scientific explanation.” As a result, Dunbar consulted others about the mysterious event that he and his crew heard. “My dad is an electrical engineer so I took him to see if there was any possible way music could be coming from the building,” Dunbar said. He said they looked all over and could find no scientific explanation for the music. Dunbar is not alone in his beliefs about Fort Ontario. Stacey Jones of CNY Ghost Hunters strongly believes that the fort is haunted. “It's definitely haunted,” Jones said. “We have been there numerous times and once we were able to get an electronic voice phenomenon of a little girl talking.” Jones and her organization pride themselves on being skeptics and said they have a lot of evidence from Fort Ontario, but the reading of a little girl's voice is the most concrete. Oswego residents were allowed to try and get a first-hand glimpse at the ghosts on Friday and Saturday when Fort Ontario hosted tours of the fort to give people a better understanding of its haunted history. Those who toured the facility heard stories about the ghosts of Mary Walker, George Fykes and Basil Dunbar and saw the places where these ghosts supposedly still live. The ghost of Basil Dunbar is one of the most famous ghosts who allegedly inhabits the fort. Dunbar was a lieutenant in the Royal American Regiment and was killed in a duel at Fort Ontario in 1759. He is featured in the documentary and those who took a tour of the facility were able to see a re-enactment of the event. Both Dunbar and Jones believe the rich history of the region is why there are so many ghost stories and possible hauntings. “I think there are a lot more ghosts in the Northeast than in other places,” Jones said. “It seems that the older and richer the history is, the more ghosts that are there.” “I don't know if there are more ghosts here,” Dunbar said. “But there is so much interesting American history here that it gave the ghost stories much more of an opportunity to develop.” Jones urges those that believe or think they may live in the home of a ghost to contact the Central New York Ghosthunters at www.gotghosts.org, but she also is sure to mention that it is important not to jump to conclusions. “We are very skeptical and do not accept everything as paranormal. We collect data in the most scientific way possible.” Dunbar's film also uses many scientific techniques and shows how the Central New York Ghosthunters work. The Old Quarry and Other Haunted Places of Central New York can be purchased at numerous places including www.amazon.com, Borders Books and at the Fort Ontario gift shop.

Oregon and the Ghosts of Turkey's Past . I trust that you all had a happy Thanksgiving. Today is, of course, the non-traditional Your Freakin' Welcome Day, when the spirits of the slain turkeys come back to haunt us, gobbling in our dreams, scratching at our doors and minds, sneaking up behind us and pecking our asses. Then again, do turkey ghosts even need to sneak? Isn't that one of perks of being a ghost? Built-in sneakiness? So today when you're eating leftover turkey sandwiches, with the very carcass of the dead rotting in your garbage can, just remember you've been warned. And when you hear the tell-tale scratching at your door, when you see the neckly wobble and hear the ghostly gobble....you've been warned. Have a great weekend, and remember, the best way to ward off the pissed-off turkey spirits is to give them a proper burial in your backyard, complete with a euology and prayers, and one rendition of the chicken dance.....go on!
