From Channel 5 News:
A Liverpool woman faces 180 counts of animal cruelty when she's arraigned in Liverpool Village Court October 31st. Lisa Alderman faces one count for each cat seized from her home earlier this month. If found guilty, she faces a $1,000 fine and up to year in prison, for each count. Back on October 5, animal investigators spent 12 hours removing the cats from Alderman's home, in Liverpool. The cats have also been a huge financial strain, on the Central New York SPCA. That's a $180,000 fine if she is fined the $1,000 per count.
It's costing the SPCA 2,700 dollars a day to house the animals. So far the total bill is at 35,000 dollars. The SPCA wants full restitution in the case...and is still looking for volunteers to help care for the cats. If you can help, call the SPCA at 454-0409.
I do not understand this: Where does the SPCA get the money from to begin with? And if it is, in part, funded by donations...can they get restitution for the donated money?
