it didn't take long for Senator Aubertine to join the ranks of the crooks in Albany. It was reported today in the Watertown Daily Times some additions to Senator Aubertine's current office staff.
It is worth a look at a couple of the new hires and make some mild observations, because his office is only as good as his staff.
Andrew "Drew" Mangione, a Green Party member with some very strong views on issues, and who was never afraid of any appearance of conflict between those views and his reporting while at the Watertown Daily Times, is the communications director. Drew is known for his strong support of legalizing marijuana and anti nuclear power and he is noted for his hot temper and throwing the "F" bomb around freely in the office atmosphere, but that should not matter a lot as Chief of Staff Ed Gaffney will not hear him anyway. His use of the “F” bomb and hot temper got him an up close and personal look at the exit sign. This is a career advancement for Drew, who comes off a job selling used TV's and writing a science fiction novel.
The Senator's next hire raises more eyebrows and concerns given the recent moves of the DEC, D. Lee Willbanks is the husband of Region 6 DEC Director Judy Drabicki. This will likely position the Senator's office for an amicable relationship with the DEC and more importantly a reluctance to represent the people and challenge any of the DEC's decisions, such as the recent road closings that impacts ATV use in Jefferson and Lewis Counties. This is probably why the Senator has been so silent on that issue. ATVers appear to be pretty much up a creek without a paddle when it comes to the Senator's office helping them; then again, DEC has probably closed off the creeks too.
Another interesting observation of this hire is that Drabicki was right in the middle of the wind farm issue prior to becoming the DEC director and the DEC is right in the middle of the issue also, and so is the Senator as he has signed a contract to host a turbine or two on his property.
Congratulations to the new hires!

he added 200 temp jobs to the area. Aubertine's latest campaign filings show that 202 people were paid between $100 and $400 to get out the vote shortly before the Feb. 28 special election for the state Senate's 48th District. Opps, never mind more than half of the people hired through the ads didn't live in the district. Of the 202 payments that Aubertine's campaign paid to the workers, 112 went to people from outside the district, with 55 going to people from the New York City area and 22 to people from other states.

New budget gives boost to campus, upstate By Chris Gosek The Palladium-Times Mon Apr 14, 2008, 06:47 PM EDT Oswego, N.Y. - In what was called “a major budget victory” by State Senator Darrel Aubertine, D-Cape Vincent, an additional $130 million was secured in the New York state budget for construction, infrastructure and expansion projects at SUNY Oswego, in addition to the $69.5 million funding reported last week for a new general science lab on the campus. “When we look at an organization like SUNY Oswego,” Aubertine said, “We have to look at it as a real economic engine in the Oswego community. The ability to bring this money in to allow for improvements at an institution like this not only brings in more jobs while further stabilizing the university, but it also helps to attract more students to the school, which in turn brings more business to the area.” Including the $69.5 million in funding secured for the new science facility, a total of $195 million was successfully secured for SUNY Oswego through the state budget. The additional funds include $21.9 million for maintenance projects on campus for the Penfield Library renovation and Utilities and Infrastructure Program Study, with $103.8 million for general funds and state operations. Aubertine noted that at one point the funds had been removed from the budget. “I am extremely gratified that these funds were put back into the budget at my urging because this will help move the Oswego campus into a new phase of development. “The Oswego campus is an important part of the educational, economic development and employment fabric of the area. I want to thank President Deborah Stanley and the SUNY Oswego administration for supplying us with all the necessary details to bring this funding to fruition.” Also included in the state budget was a $1 billion upstate initiative program. When passed, the final amount secured for the program came in slightly lower than the original $1 billion that was proposed, but said, “suffice to say, this was a major amount of money secured to be used for economic development across upstate New York.” The upstate initiative should be of great help in several areas locally. “There are a lot of opportunities here for upstate counties, such as Oswego,” Aubertine said. “A good share of this will ultimately be going into agricultural development ... and stabilizing agricultural growth across the area.” One place Aubertine felt would be greatly helped in Oswego County would be in its parks and recreation. “The beautiful state parks in the area will certainly benefit from this,” he said. “Again, these are what I would look at as an economic engine ... the parks in this area bring a lot of people to the region for a good four or five months out of the year.” With the news of the funding being secured for different areas in Oswego County and across District 48, and several businesses recently discussing locating in the area. “This all bodes very well for doing more for our local economy and bringing in more local jobs,” Aubertine said..”

It was a matter of time before the crybabies from the Barclay camp would start whining. Typical rich kid behavior.

And the barking camp didn't? At least Aubertine had quality workers. Besides his manager was from downstate and probably wanted some of the workers she has worked with before on Hillary's campaign. Aubertine didn't hurt for workers here locally, they came out in numbers.

The "BOOST" for upstate was from Spitzer, Aubertine had very little to do with it. What has he done himself? Not a damn thing besides get his wind mill project going and using the DEC to his advantage.
And I'm no fan of Barkley either

In office less than two months and he hired his sister, was questioned on his hiring practices, and now his sister resigned after a review of state ethics laws. What a way to start out. He claims to be for change and then hires his sister. Wow how friggen blind are you people who support this guy. He must be one of the good ole boys who doesn't know hiring family members is a no no, or he thinks everyone in upstate is too stupid to catch it. Now lets see how long before the other addition to his staff, the DEC connection, lasts before one of them is arrested for improper dealings. Aubertine is abusing his office after 2 months.

thats a typical rebuttal from a Aubertine supporter, no substance and suffering from denial. Aubertine hasn't done anything except finish a couple things Eliot Spitzer didn't get a chance to complete. I keep seeing the same response saying he done more in two months. Just what has he done? Please don't cut and paste the same lame article from the pall times again. You seem to be so up to date on the farm boys accomplishments I can't wait to read your reply. Oh don't forget to mention the windmill agreement, and the manipulation of the DEC that farm boy is using to screw the residents of upstate while he counts his take. The best thing for NY would be if Aubertine stuck his head in one of the windmills blades during a thunderstorm.
You're probably one of the Spitzer people. lol

Aubertine is being investigated for his hiring of D. Lee Willbanks, who is married to state Department of Environmental Conservation Region 6 Director Judy Drabicki. The DEC declared itself the lead agency for a state environmental-quality review of the proposed Galloo Island Wind Project. The project requires high-voltage power lines that are proposed to run through northern Oswego County. Aubertine may have a special interest in the wind turbine project as he is looking to lease his property for the project. CONFLICT OF INTEREST!

YAHOOOOOOO ;D New York State Senator Darrel Aubertine, D-Cape Vincent, voiced his support on the Senate floor in Albany, Wednesday, not only for a bill that could result in the reduction of fuel costs this summer but also several pieces of legislation that would directly benefit the economy in Oswego County. Aubertine voted in favor of implementing a tax credit for biodiesel and ethanol storage facilities and also for a separate bill that would give a biofuel production credit for cellulosic ethanol. “Alternative fuel sources will decrease our dependence on foreign oil and make us less vulnerable to the rising cost of gasoline,” Aubertine said. “In the port of Oswego and on the highways leading into Fulton, the feed stock to create ethanol is coming in. The former Miller Brewery’s new mission as Northeast Biofuels will boost our economy with the jobs it creates and its part in the impact alternative fuels will have on energy costs.” In an effort to provide some relief from the sky-rocketing costs of fuel, Aubertine also voted in support of a bill that would suspend state taxes on gasoline from the weekend of Memorial Day until Labor Day weekend. Aubertine continued. “It’s important to recognize this problem now and start searching for a real solution.”.” You go Darell, you the MAN!!!!! Oh he only voted for a bill that the other Senators worked on? From all the hoopla on his web site and the rag news papers I thought he actually did something.....oops should of known better. Someone please tell Darrel little Al Gore Aubertine that if you want to take credit for something its only fair to the one who do the work that you help, just a little help would be ok. I understand that he has been riding coattails his whole life, but its time to step up and at least try to do something himself. Standing on the pulpit telling us all about the gas prices and bio fuels is nice for publicity, but we already know it.....we pay for our gas ourselves. Darrel is beginning to sound and act like Al Gore, you know the founder of the internet and discoverer of Global Warming.
