Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said that as much as $2.2 billion that Spitzer is counting on to balance the budget, including $676 million in proposals the Legislature has previously rejected and new revenue ideas, like a tax on illegal drugs, "may not materialize.'' How does one go about taxing illegal drugs? Spitzer's budget plan would also increase debt-service payments by 50 percent, to $7.5 billion annually, DiNapoli said. DiNapoli said Spitzer plans to use $1.5 billion in nonrecurring resources, including $200 million from a fund that is supposed to be dedicated to environmental projects, to balance the budget. And although Spitzer claims not to be proposing any tax hikes, DiNapoli said he identified $1.1 billion "in new or increased taxes and fees.''
Eliot is delusional. He does not and has never understood what is in the best interest for NY. Cutting funds from the elderly, poor, and from children across NY, taking out more loans to offset his spending will only cause NY state more problems in the future. Increasing the deficit in NY by spending money that we do not have is like paying off one credit card with another. Increasing taxes on products and services we all must use in order to live is the reason this county went to war with the English. Eliot just doesn't get it or he thinks the common man is too stupid to do anything about it.
