The poster is from the same ISP as you, but a slightly different IP address. By the way, thats about the extent of what I can tell. Guests have limited privileges. Unfortunately, the way the site works, if you want to maintain the integrity of your posts, you'd need to be a registered user. That way, unless someone logs onto your account from your PC, only you can have that name registered. (Not to mention I could PM you this info rather than broadcasting it.) As it stands now, anyone who posts anonymously can have any name, and like we now see, it can be someone like you who posts here regularly as a guest. Chalk up the first evidence of name stealing.

USER7777 Not that it's something to brag about, but someone (and I know who it was) not only used my name, they used my computer to write something in my name. I read, and on occasion post on Oswego Chat, Inside Oswego and The Lion. I stay logged on to these sites About a week or so ago, some of my "friends" wanted to have some fun at my expense and sent in a post in my name. Not only did they do that but they sent it in to the Inside Oswego site and, on purpose, riled up several of the "most vocal"of it's members. Since I was out of town, I didn't see what my "friends" wrote or what was in the replies to that post. I was later told that the replies mentioned, in no uncertain terms, a barrage of what I should do physically to my own and certain other's body parts. I'm just as glad that I wasn't around to read any of it. Thanks, guys. Paybacks are a #%&@%. Sowhat's the moral of the story? I dunno. Maybe log off every night? Popeye

It is very unfortunate that these things happen, as you point out, Popeye. You show the real need for PC security, and this is regardless if you are at work or home. Part of a policy at my work is to always log off the PC, such that no one can quickly step in and either mess with your PC or send a trouble-making email to another person in the guise of the person who didn't log off. Its just good practice to sign out of ANY website that requires you to log in. In this day of identity theft, trust no one.
That being said, registering a name can help avert any random guest using your unregistered name on this website, and if you do, like Popeye says, be sure to log off when done. Pranksters are abound. Although I haven't tried it, I believe should you forget your password, the server this board runs on can email it to you. Even though I am an administrator here, the user details I am allowed to see are few, granting me just enough to ban users, and I applaud the creator of this server and freeboards for respecting each users privacy.

This happened to me a while back on IO when that house got broken into around Christmas time last year.
I had let a "friend" stay with me and then she used my computer while I was gone. I hadn't signed off so it went as posted by me.
I sign off whenever I am going to be away and there are going to be people at my place or when someone else asks to use my computer.
