I'll be kind and say it will be over in about 6 months. Syracuse couldn't support a semi-pro basketball team or a semi-pro football team. So why would anyone think Oswego county can support a semi-pro football team? The football fans in Oswego County are more interested in the beer and being able to see the TV from their bar stools than they are about standing in a cold field watching a bunch of third rate bums play in the mud. Semi-pro ball is a waste. ;D

Everyone has a viewpoint and to be fair you might be right but if I may be so bold for the last 6 years I have been driving to syracuse to watch the semi pro team that is down there and o by the way they won a national title couple years ago, not to mention we can drive an hour north to little now where watertown and fine TWO teams up there, so If watertown can have two teams I think Oswego County can handle one.
Maybe with the right amount of work this team can get them off their bar stools and into the stands to watch some football which by the way is played June - Sept so they wont freeze....
I am for one say go for it!!!! I might be the only person in the stands but at least Ill have a good seat..;D

Sewacuse has a semi-pro team? Never knew it. Never did like football anyway, so i guess it wouldn't be on my radar screen of things to do. I agree that Oswego could support a team. I don't think it will, but it could.

Thanks for the remarks. We appreciate everyone's point of view. As far as this team being a bunch of third rate bums, time will tell. We have had a preliminary sign up and we have 42 players interested in only 5 days and we've yet to advertise. Several of these players have college ball experience. Some have played Division 1, some Division II and a few Division III. One guy has actually spent time in the NFL and CFL. We're not exactly sure what type of team we will field but we promise to try and represent Oswego County with class.
November 29th at noon we will be holding our first official sign ups at the Fulton War Memorial. Let's see how many athletes show up and then we can start deciding where we go from there.
This team is not just about the community, it's about giving these athletes the opportunity to continue to play the game they love. There are several Nationally ranked teams in NY State, Albany was #1 to Start 2009, Monroe County out of Rochester was #2 and Syracuse was #10.
There is plenty of talent in NY State, now we feel it's time to let Oswego County get on the map and show the talent we have as well. Love us or hate us, just wish us success.
Thanks, Oswego County Outlaws

Who is running this organization? Seems somewhat odd that no names of have been mentioned.

That's a great question!
Names haven't been mentioned because we are waiting for the press release to come out to introduce everyone. We have an appointment with the local paper this weekend. As long as they show up everyone will know who is running this organization. Lets just say there is a ton of Minor League Football experience behind this team.
Stay tuned to next weeks paper, if they can not make the appointment this weekend we will definitely release all that information next week.
Thank You, Outlaws

You're charging the players a fee to play on the team? Sounds a bit odd. Does the team have insurance to cover the players in case of injury? Where are the games going to be played? What members of the organization will be drawing a pay check?

Yes there is a fee to play on this team. It is standard practice at this level to charge a fee to play. The fee helps cover the costs of fields, refs, league dues, uniforms and other odds and ends like footballs. The players will have an opportunity to fund raise and eliminate the fee if they raise enough funds.
The team will have insurance through the league we will be playing in but the players must have their own insurance to cover injury. This too is standard practice at this level.
We have secured a practice field and we are currently in negotiations on our home field. When we finalize a deal we will be sure to let everyone know.
We will not be paying anyone in this organization to coach. It's illegal to pay players so they won't be paid either. All the monies raised will be used to support this organization and it's players. Our goal is not to make this a money maker for the board members, but to make it a sustainable entity that will return season after season providing local athletes the opportunity to continue playing the sport they love while providing the local community quality entertainment.
Should you have anymore questions please let us know.
Thank You, Coach Kenny Anderson

After reading the article in the Daily I think you're wasting your time. No one except a few people with nothing to do are going to pay to watch a bunch of guys try and relive their HS football days. You'd have better luck starting a drinking team for fat x-football players who couldn't make it on the HS team, yet still tell stories of their great accomplishments on the field. You not even talking semi-pro ball here, its more like a pick up game of guys who haven't grown up yet.
Good luck you'll need it.

Greetings to all Oswego County Outlaws & Supporters June 3, 2010
We the Oswego County Outlaws management team would like to give a heartfelt thank you for all you have done to assist the Outlaws. It is with a heavy heart that we are writing to info you that the Oswego County Outlaws Minor League Football team will be suspending its operations for the 2010 NAFL season. Our goal to bring Minor league football to the Oswego County area was an aggressive one, but we were unable to accomplish this. While we were very excited about the support we received from the local businesses, local residents, and other level supporters, we were not able to field a team due to lack of player participation. As we had over 80 players sign agreements many did not attend practices for one reason or another. To become a team that our community could be proud to support we felt that we would need 30+ players attending practices to move forward successfully with our program. Our organization set a deadline date of June 2nd to give our players amply opportunity to attend practices. As of the deadline date we had only 10 players attending practice. The Outlaws have been extended a gracious opportunity by the Syracuse Shock Minor League football team. The Shock will be honoring all advertising and season ticket agreements signed by the Oswego County Outlaws. The Shock has also invited the entire staff and remaining players to participate in the 2010 Shock campaign. Again we thank you for all you have done in an attempt to bring minor league football to the Oswego County area.
Thank You, Outlaws Management Team

Welcome to Oswego. Too many beer drinking fat guys and no talent chumps. Unfortunately your attempt at developing a team took place in a town where most of the wanna-be athletes don't have any talent or ambition. You would of had better luck starting a beer pong league.
