Re: Minor League Football comes to Oswego « Result #1 on Nov 16, 2009, 12:24pm »
Yes there is a fee to play on this team. It is standard practice at this level to charge a fee to play. The fee helps cover the costs of fields, refs, league dues, uniforms and other odds and ends like footballs. The players will have an opportunity to fund raise and eliminate the fee if they raise enough funds.
The team will have insurance through the league we will be playing in but the players must have their own insurance to cover injury. This too is standard practice at this level.
We have secured a practice field and we are currently in negotiations on our home field. When we finalize a deal we will be sure to let everyone know.
We will not be paying anyone in this organization to coach. It's illegal to pay players so they won't be paid either. All the monies raised will be used to support this organization and it's players. Our goal is not to make this a money maker for the board members, but to make it a sustainable entity that will return season after season providing local athletes the opportunity to continue playing the sport they love while providing the local community quality entertainment.
Should you have anymore questions please let us know.

You're charging the players a fee to play on the team? Sounds a bit odd. Does the team have insurance to cover the players in case of injury? Where are the games going to be played? What members of the organization will be drawing a pay check?

The Oswego County Outlaws will be holding player sign-ups on Sunday November 29th at Noon at the Fulton War Memorial. Anyone that is interested in playing should attend this meeting. We will be discussing the expectations of both the players and the team.
If you have any question please visit our website at www.ocoutlawsfootball.com or you can e-mail us at ocooutlawscoach@yahoo.com
Thank You and we look forward to seeing you there.
So when do the taxpayers get to decide on how the school board spends our money? I just heard that for some varsity team two different coaches are being paid and only one is actually coaching. The other one gets to sit home and get the money.

That's a great question!
Names haven't been mentioned because we are waiting for the press release to come out to introduce everyone. We have an appointment with the local paper this weekend. As long as they show up everyone will know who is running this organization. Lets just say there is a ton of Minor League Football experience behind this team.
Stay tuned to next weeks paper, if they can not make the appointment this weekend we will definitely release all that information next week.

Thanks for the remarks. We appreciate everyone's point of view. As far as this team being a bunch of third rate bums, time will tell. We have had a preliminary sign up and we have 42 players interested in only 5 days and we've yet to advertise. Several of these players have college ball experience. Some have played Division 1, some Division II and a few Division III. One guy has actually spent time in the NFL and CFL. We're not exactly sure what type of team we will field but we promise to try and represent Oswego County with class.
November 29th at noon we will be holding our first official sign ups at the Fulton War Memorial. Let's see how many athletes show up and then we can start deciding where we go from there.
This team is not just about the community, it's about giving these athletes the opportunity to continue to play the game they love. There are several Nationally ranked teams in NY State, Albany was #1 to Start 2009, Monroe County out of Rochester was #2 and Syracuse was #10.
There is plenty of talent in NY State, now we feel it's time to let Oswego County get on the map and show the talent we have as well. Love us or hate us, just wish us success.
In the shopper there is a story about foreign exchange students here. Guess who has or had 2? TP--his pictures is there with the 2 and their names in the article. He was arrested 12 days ago. Didn't the shopper think about that before they put it in the paper? A Mother

Sewacuse has a semi-pro team? Never knew it. Never did like football anyway, so i guess it wouldn't be on my radar screen of things to do. I agree that Oswego could support a team. I don't think it will, but it could.

Everyone has a viewpoint and to be fair you might be right but if I may be so bold for the last 6 years I have been driving to syracuse to watch the semi pro team that is down there and o by the way they won a national title couple years ago, not to mention we can drive an hour north to little now where watertown and fine TWO teams up there, so If watertown can have two teams I think Oswego County can handle one.
Maybe with the right amount of work this team can get them off their bar stools and into the stands to watch some football which by the way is played June - Sept so they wont freeze....
I am for one say go for it!!!! I might be the only person in the stands but at least Ill have a good seat..;D
Re: Minor League Football comes to Oswego « Result #15 on Nov 5, 2009, 8:11am »
I'll be kind and say it will be over in about 6 months. Syracuse couldn't support a semi-pro basketball team or a semi-pro football team. So why would anyone think Oswego county can support a semi-pro football team? The football fans in Oswego County are more interested in the beer and being able to see the TV from their bar stools than they are about standing in a cold field watching a bunch of third rate bums play in the mud. Semi-pro ball is a waste.

New Blood in County Government
Congrats to Amy Tresidder-County District 16, and to Jake Mulcahey-County District 15. Our County needed fresh blood and vision, thanks for running clean campaigns.

Democrat Bill Owens has received the endorsement of the Independence Party, who originally backed Republican Dede Scozzafava. She will remain on the I-line for the election, but Independence Party chairman Frank MacKay said in a statement:
“While I respect that some of our local organizations will make endorsements, as Chairman of the New York State Independence Party today I am proudly endorsing Bill Owens for Congress. I strongly urge all Independence Party members and voters throughout the 23rd District to cast their vote for Bill Owens on Tuesday,” said MacKay.
You Dems and Independents better get out there and vote. Owens needs every vote he can get.

What a shame. Is there no decency in this city? Here's a guy you think is doing good for the town and come to find out he acts like he is above the law.
And now the Lee Walker dropped charges? Another above the law?
Oh, that's right, they are Republicans aren't they.
